So, I’ve been dabbling with streaming to Twitch again recently. It’s been five years since I was streaming regularly, and my PC is woefully out-of-date now. But that’s okay, since I have my Xbox Series X now, and it can stream direct to Twitch, no fuss, no muss!
… or so I thought…
Streaming to Twitch isn’t a big deal, actually. The Xbox does a good job making this quick and easy to set up, and the streaming quality seems fine. The problem has been from my end of the stream, actually.
You see, I picked up a cheap headset off of Amazon a month or two back, with the intention at that time to use it to talk to my brother on Discord, while playing on the Xbox. At first, it seemed fine, although the fob it used to wirelessly connect to my console worked through the controller, which drained my batteries faster than I would have liked, but whatever. Not a huge deal. The problem was, though, that the mic apparently sounds like complete ass, especially when streaming to Twitch.
Static. Buzzing. Low-quality. That’s what I get for buying a $35 headset!
Anyway, I just dropped almost $110 on an official Xbox headset, because it appears to be the best option for me, if I wish to continue with this endeavor. The reviews are good, apparently the sound quality is very good, and it connects seamlessly with the console, without needing some janky fob attached to the controller.
All in all, I’m excited. While I know this won’t be as professional as my earlier streaming efforts were five years ago, it should be fine for the casual streams I have in mind. My goal is to just stream what I’m playing on the weekends, and maybe connect to Discord as well, so that Beoulus (my brother and former podcasting partner) can chat, as well. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but I have a good feeling about this!
… and if it fails utterly, I can always return the headset for a refund, right?

So I’ve been streaming on Twitch for a while now, and things are going well. Doing roughly 3 to 3.5 hours on Saturday and Sunday mornings, with the occasional overnight stream. The headset works fine, and I’ve settled into a nice little niche playing “Starfield” for a very few viewers. For the most part, I’ve been playing a brand-new character, started from scratch just for the stream. As of this time, he’s around level 90, if I recall correctly. I’m using a rather large amount of mods, so he levels really fast, and it’s kind of hard to remember where he’s at anymore.
Now then, I’m getting pretty close to the end of his first universe, at least to the end of the main storyline, that is. I haven’t done any of the major faction questlines, nor the DLC “Shattered Space”, and I have a lot of sidequests that could be done. I was thinking of leaving much of this for future universes, so they don’t get boring, but I will likely do the “Watchtower” Questline before I jump through the Unity.
So for future universes, I’m thinking of doing the shortened main Questline, as you need to do to level up those Starborn powers, and one major faction questline to finish everything off before making the next jump. I’m going to count the DLC as a faction questline, though, and do it in Universe 2.
Or at least, that’s the plan. For those of you who’ve played “Starfield” a lot, I’m about to start “Entangled”, which will likely take up my stream next Saturday morning. If I have additional time, I’ll pick up what temples I can, and maybe get the very start of “Watchtower” out of the way, because that will be unavoidable now. I’ve been using a mod that prevents it from starting until “Entangled” starts, and once that is done, I won’t have a choice in the matter anymore.
“Watchtower” is one of those questlines that insists on getting your attention.
