So I was digging through my Google Drive the other day, looking at various TTRPG projects I have lying around therein, when I came across something I had completely forgotten about: A game that is almost done.
Well, not exactly, but it is closer than any other project I’ve been working on the last few years! It is a PbtA game, built using the Simple World framework, and it is really just in need of fleshing out the writing and doing layout/editing before putting it out as a PDF for all to enjoy. I will be using Creative Commons and Public Domain artwork for said game, so that’s not even a concern.
I do have an issue, though, and it is why I think I set it aside before in favor of other ideas. The game can be construed to be insensitive to the mentally ill, if one wishes to look at it that way. That was not how the game was intended, but I suspect those who want to be offended will be regardless of how I present it, so I have to ask myself if it is worth putting said game out? The problem involves the core concepts of the game, which have nothing to do with mental health, but upon re-reading the framework, I suspect some folk will look at the game from the wrong angle and think it insensitive.
No, I can’t get into detail here without spoiling much of the unique concepts of said game, so I won’t go there. Just rest assured that I’m sure it will be an issue, should those folk wish to make it such. So with that in mind, is it worth continuing, knowing that all I am likely to reap is an argument and a bad reputation in the community?
